Answers to common questions about Muster Out for iPhone and iPad, and a way to reach us.

Getting started

Paths it covers

Getting out at EAS, officer resignation and active-duty retirement, including transfer to the FMCR and the Retired List. You can add Reserve and SkillBridge plans if they apply.

IDES, involuntary separation and Reserve or Guard retirement show a screen with the office to contact. Start with your IPAC or your installation transition office.

What you need to set up

Your path, your date and what that date means, your grade group, and your Reserve and SkillBridge plans if you know them. You can leave the date and those plans as unknown and fill them in later. The app never asks for your name, SSN, DoD ID, unit or health information.

Your own notes and steps

This version has no notes or custom steps, but you can change any step's date and status.

Dates

Planning targets and rule deadlines

A planning target is a date Muster Out picked inside the window a rule allows. It is a plan. A rule deadline is the date the source text sets. Each step shows which kind of date it has and where it comes from.

When your date changes

Preview the change before you save it. The dates the app worked out from your old date move to fit the new one. Anything you entered yourself stays as you left it.

The final word on a date

Your IPAC and the office named on each step have it. Muster Out is unofficial and is not legal, financial or medical advice.

Trial and billing

Price

At launch, choose monthly or annual. Eligible subscribers get a 7-day free trial, then Apple bills $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year until canceled.

What you see before you pay

You finish setup and see your next 3 steps, their dates and your leave projection. Starting the trial opens the full plan, exports and reminders.

Canceling

Cancel in your Apple Account subscription settings, or tap Manage subscription in the app's Settings, which opens the same Apple page. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current period ends to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the end date Apple shows.

Restoring on a new phone

Sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore Purchases in the app's Settings.

Refunds

Apple handles refunds, and you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

When a subscription ends

Your plan stays readable on your device. Editing and new reminders need an active subscription.

Your data

Where your plan is stored

On your device. We cannot read it, and the app sends us nothing.

Backups

Your device backup settings decide that. iCloud Backup or a computer backup can include the app's data. If you lose a phone that has no backup, the plan goes with it. A PDF keeps a record of what the plan said, but it cannot restore the plan.

Deleting your data

To remove the plan from this device, tap Settings, then Delete local plan, or delete the app. An earlier device backup can still hold a copy.

Reminders and exports

Reminders that stopped

iOS limits how many reminders an app can schedule ahead. The app shows how far yours reach. Open the app now and then and it schedules more.

Adding a step to Calendar

Add an eligible dated step through the Calendar screen, then choose Save. Later plan changes do not update saved events.

What the PDF holds

The PDF includes step status, eligible step dates with their basis, your leave balance and leave dates. Preview it before sharing. Medical and VA reference items stay out of exports.

Continue in Claude or ChatGPT

Pick a step and choose the app. Muster Out shows exactly what it will copy, which is the step's title and status. You paste it and send it yourself. The app sends nothing to either company, and their terms apply to what you send.

The waitlist

A missing confirmation email

Check spam and promotions, then try the form again. A .mil address may block it or close before launch, so a personal address works best.

What we send

One email the day Muster Out is on the App Store, and no more than one a month before that.
